Fishing in Punta Cana with Jonathan Diaz

Saturday 4th 2013 afternoon trip.  I was fishing with my friend Jonathan Diaz in Punta Cana , we were out with other fishermen from different country Russia and UK.  We trolled from 2 miles to 11 miles offshore after 2 hours riding in circle we crossed right in front of a big floating buoy we had 3 hits at once of dorados big sizes around 20 pound each, the captain and mate were very skilled in helping the customers to reel the fishes in. We had a great time with Captain Emilio Santana  and his mate Orlando Caminero. 1 hour later we had another strike of smaller mahi-mahi., Captain Emilio said at this time of the year Dorados and white marlin are common catch, next time we will try out for blue marlin in late August.

Highly recommend  this charter company.

рыбалка Пунта-Кана - Punta Cana

White marlin fishing season in punta cana 2013

The white marlin season has arrived from end of March to end of June. We had our first strikes this morning, we had a small white marlin on the hook with around 35 or 40 pounds max which was release minutes after. The ocean is very calm with cool breeze from the southeast at 3 mph. At this time of the year white marlin is a common fish in our local water at only couple of miles offshore we target em, also dorados, barracudas, cobias, bonitos and barracudas are usually catch by our captains and mates. The boats are running new lures and of course the irresistible marlin bait ( Ballyhoos). Hope the last quarter moon April 3rd bring us more action and we will post nice picture of released white marlins.

For all fishing enthusiast i wish the best fishing luck!!
Tight lines!!

Punta Cana Fishing Charter with Philip A. Kaiser

If you are looking to go fishing in Punta Cana, look no farther.

Having fished from Alaska to the East Coast, I know that picking a charter boat can be a tricky business. My first fishing trip in Punta Cana landed me on a crowded boat with only two fish landed, neither of which were mine. I never even touched a pole. This is the price I paid the price for not doing my homework and simply picking a boat from the advice of our resort.

My second visit to Punta Cana would land me in a much better deal, I decided to do some homework and follow the advice of some of the better travel forums. My final choices was to book a private charter through www.fishinpuntacana.com. Divided between some family and friends, the price was awesome and was cheaper than if we went joined another group and paid by the person. I would recommend to anyone headed down there with more than 3 people to simply spend the money to charter your own boat, it was a night and day difference. Group trips with new people can be fun too, but having our private charter really added something to the experience.

After getting some great deals at their shop landside, we headed to the boat and headed out. (They did not start the clock until the boat was literally underway. This was awesome because it allowed us to be relaxed and schedule free.)

After a short cruise out, we spent the afternoon trolling for Marlin, Dorado, and Tuna. We landed 18 Dorado, 1 Tuna, and fought an 8ft white tip oceanic shark all the way up to the boat. (Too dangerous to land it.) We were even fortunate enough to cruise through a school of dolphins that came right to the boat.  Needless to say, we had a blast. Our five hour charter slowly turned into six and longer because the fishing was so hot and we were all having such a good time. It was one of my most memorable fishing days that I can recall and that is a tough thing to say after spending 12 summers fishing in Alaska. (side note: Much more fun to fish in flip-flops and shorts than waders and long johns.) The staff landside was awesome and our crew on the boat was even better. I am not sure who was having a better time, them, or us, but we all had a complete blast together.

‘Not only would I recommend these guys to anyone asking, I am planning to return myself as soon as I get back down there.

Tight lines and cold beers.
